Victorian gold plated stickpin with butterfly under glass and rope edge

This is an antique Victorian stickpin in gold with a twisted edge. It was originally a locket and was remade into a stickpin. The glass front is covering a lovely little white butterfly which is a real insect. This type of jewelry was very popular in the mid-1800s. The Victorians were very into insects of all kinds but they specifically loved butterflies.
