CJ and Makers Marks in British Sterling with Millifiore Cabochon Stunning 1970s

This is a beautiful vintage Caithness ring (Cox Jewelry) sterling silver ring set with a glowing millefiori paperweight glass cabochon. Caithness is a glass manufacturer from Scotland. The ring is a US size 6 It bears British sterling hallmarks.

Caithness Glass is a famous company producing paperweights but Paul Ysart had the idea of making it into jewellery. He had been making small ‘stones’ and setting them into cheap jewel fittings as presents for friends and family. Caithness saw a potential and put Colin Terris in charge of further development. The range was officially launched in December 1970. Colin Terris designed a range of brooches and pendants inspired by traditional Scottish design and hired Lucia Polanski as a jewellery designer; she produced the rings, earrings and cufflinks designs (From the Caithness Jewellery online history).
